PEP Productions presents

City of Angels

July 28 – August 4, 2007

Mahon Theatre, Ringwood

Synopsis:
Set in the glamorous, seductive Hollywood of the 1940s – where film studios and flimsy negligees go hand in hand – City of Angels chronicles the misadventures of a young novelist, Stine, who is attempting to adapt one of his best-selling crime novels into a screenplay. But his artistic integrity and his marriage are challenged when fast-talking Hollywood producer, Buddy Fidler, forces him to make endless compromises to the script.

As Stine creates the story about a private detective, Stone, the characters of Stine’s imagination come to life on stage. A beautiful socialite hires Stone to find her missing step-daughter, which brings him nothing but trouble. He gets beaten up by hoodlums, double-crossed countless times, and a secret from the past finally catches up with him. As the mystery unfolds and stone sinks further into a web of treachery and intrigue, off-screen Stine’s world is also crumbling around him. Will Stine and his alter-ego Stone each succeed in solving the puzzle, saving the girl and salvaging their reputations?

With fast-paced action, captivating characters and music written in the contemporary jazz idiom, City of Angels is the rarest of musical comedies.
